Some cool icey news

Two weeks from the midway point of the Northern Hemiphere melting season, the Arctic Ice Extent is on track to have the highest minimum in a decade (with the standard proviso that things can and may change between now and the end of the melt season).

The Antarctic sea is on track to be the one the highest maximums in the satellite era.

It's gotten sticky

Just went for a coffee run.  Wow, has it got sticky and humid.   Expect that to get worse and last until Sunday.

Heat wave this week.

As mentioned last week during the cool spell when record snow fell in the the NE US and southern Quebec, it's going to warm up this week and gradually get humid.   Like the Env. Can. forecast, I think that Friday will be the warmest day.  However, I think the may be more unstability on Thursday and Friday that'll give us a chance for precip then.

More comfortable temps should come early next week.

T-storm warning

A small but intense storm is approaching from the NW.  Its current track is essentially following the Ottawa river.   There will be localized high winds, hail and lightning.   Be aware.

This week

Unsettled for most of the week until Friday when a cool shot of air will dry things out but also give a chance for frost on the weekend.   You make want to cover your tomotoes then.

Summer will return

Cold air mass is moving off today, showers tomorrow, and the remainder of the week will gradually warm up.  In fact, next week Monday and Tuesday may be the opposite of this week Monday and Tuesday in that they are predicted to be warm and humid-ish, ignoring the Env. Can. forecast for the moment.

Short term weather

The rain will arrive this afternoon with steady rain for a few hours then shift too scattered showers until tomorrow morning.   Most of Saturday will be precip free.  Sunday will see the cold from come through with its associated showers.   Then there is a high likelihood of frost Monday and Tuesday morning.

Frost warning for early next week

Both the GFS(below) and the Euro are predicting wide spread frost conditions Monday and Tuesday mornings of next week.   Remember last year when a May frost kill much of the cherry, apple and other fruit crops in Ontario.   It may happen again.

This week and beyond

Sunny and warm to start.
Late Wednesday into Thursday the remnants of an upper level system in the eastern US will impact our area with scattered showers.  So March for Life may be wet.  Bring an umbrella.
There is still debate about Friday and Saturday.  However, they are generally unsettled with a greater chance on Saturday for precip.
Sunday will see a cold front coming through which will usher in a few day of cooler than normal temps.   We may even see a freeze Monday morning.

So surprisingly, I generally agree with the current Env. Can. forecast.

Continuing dry...

It's looking like we will be in a dry pattern for more than a week with the next significant rain coming next weekend.   Until then, enjoy.
