More enthusiast

Some of the models have become more enthusiast about tomorrow clipper, saying that we may get as much as 10cm.  As well, a system on Saturday is looking like a 15-20 cm..

Flash freeze and Clipper

Today's high temperature of  ~ +5C will occur early this evening, approximately 8:00 PM, .   By 10 PM, the temperature is predicted to have dropped to -2C, -5 by midnight, -10 by morning.  This is accompanied by high winds.   Bare surfaces may dry up before the freeze but any accumulation of puddles will freeze up and snow banks will become rock solid.

Quick post from the bus..

Cold coming gangbusters.
A clipper originally predicted to go south of us will give us a glancing blow on Saturday.  The US models are more north on the track than the Euro and as such, giving us more snow.   So as of now, we could get anywhere between 2 and 10 cms.   This clipper will intensify of the coast and bomb the maritimes.
Chance of even colder air in the 7-10 day period.
A system coming from the south may make things interesting late next week too.

Even I am starting to feel sorry for the Maritimes...

Predicted snowfall over the next ten days...on top of the feet of snow they already have.   The weak clippers that we get intensify up into big storms once they hit the Gulf stream.

Next clipper

The next clipper will bring us 5-10 cms of snow (with potential for more) Wednesday night into Thursday, giving a potential snow day Thursday.

Afterwards, some of the coldest air of the season is coming in for the weekend.

A lunch look..

The snow hole that is southern and eastern Ontario may get filled in somewhat late next week as a clipper comes with what is currently predicted to be a few inches.  But the main news remains the cold that is coming in two shots next week.   Sunday to Wednesday we will see overnight lows well into the -20s C.  Following the clipper is another more intense Arctic high that is currently predicted on some models to give us overnight lows well into the -30s C next weekend and into February.

Quick on the bus post

Cold and clippers are the story for the next 10 days.  While liquid equivalent amounts will be low (a few millimeters or less), the cold will cause ratios to be high, like 20 or 30 to one.  That means 1 mm of liquid will give 2 or 3 cms of snow.  Friday's clipper appears to be more enthusiastic than Tuesday's, giving more than 5cms of snow.

The next potential major storm looks to be around the 15th.

A coup for the Canadian...

All the models are pretty much in line with the Canadian.   As such it looks like we are hit by two clippers, one early Saturday and one later Sunday, each bring 2-4" of snow, perhaps 6" lollipops in places if a heavy band stays in one spot.

Models are trending to the Canadian.

It's increasingly looking like the blind Canadian found the nut before the others.   The latest Euro is inline with the Canadian with a clipper system center arriving over south Lake Huron and crossing to Lake Ontario late Sunday.   The GFS has trended northward in its latest run with the storm center passing just south of Lake Erie.

If the Can and Euro are correct, then we'll likely have two 2-4" snowfalls (with potential of 6" if ratios are high), one early Saturday and one late Sunday. 

Then VERY cold after that.

Hold the phone....

Models are showing a clipper clipping us with 3-6" of the white stuff on Saturday.  Not exactly a storm but we'll take what we can get.

And for a funny, the Canadian has another clipper for Sunday following quick on the heels of the Saturday clipper, taking it through south/central Ontario to eastern Ontario, giving most of the area another 6".  On the other hand, the GFS and Euro have this piece of energy weaker and well to the south of Ontario.
