Snow in Southern Alberta next week..Thanksgiving for us?
Gorgeous weather in Southern Alberta now. But wait until next week where there may snow in the major cities. Definitely the foothills will be nice and white.
That fresh air mass will be heading east towards us for the Thanksgiving weekend. While one model is giving us some white stuff to go with it, at this time I don't think that'll happen. It will be definitely be cool, staying in the single digits.

Cool Hubble shot
The eXtreme Deep Field project using the Hubble Space telescope showing thousands of galaxies really, really REALLY far away:
Larger version here.
To me, this intuitively refutes the Big Bang Theory. But that's just me.

Not...by a hair.
The official low temperature yesterday at Ottawa A/P was 0.1 C...not quite 0. So the pool isn't decided yet.

Barrhaven in the outer regions?
Must be, since my ride into work had to scrape off his car windows this morning. We'll see was the official numbers look like tomorrow.
Next chance for frost is Thursday morning.

Frost in the outer regions
Today is the first full day of Autumn. The Fall Equinox was yesterday. Co-incidentally enough, there is decent chance for frost in areas away from the city. Let me know if you see some tonight.

How's your grass look now?
Ottawa is currently sitting at 113.2 mm of rain for Sept, which 133% of normal for the whole month. And there will be a bunch more rain to come yet. As I mentioned last week, a cool and damp weather will be the norm for the next week or so.

A fallish start to Fall
With the Autumn Equinox a little over a week away, it looking like the beginning of the Fall season will be very Fall like, cool and damp. A significant trough will dig in to the eastern half of the continent mid next week, bringing cool and dampish weather for the following week or two.
Here is the mean temp anomoly for the week starting next Friday courtesy of Weatherbell.

Thursday afternoon update: Remarkable agreement in the 6-10 day upper level predictions. Note the trough (U shaped blue) in Central to Eastern N. America.

One not so nice day
The last half of Friday into the overnight will be showery and wet. But for the rest, it should be nice until about the middle of next week after which will be uglier.

A little too close to home
One of the mid range models in the latest run is predicting snow not too far to our north in a week... That's a little early even for me.

Place your first frost predictions here
Env. Can. has put out frost warnings for the central Ontario regions like Algonquin and Bancroft areas. For our region, there is a "risk of frost" with the predicted overnight low of 3 C.
Assuming that frost won't occur this evening (and I don't think it will), I am starting a poll with your predictions as to when the first frost will hit. And just so we're clear, I am defining first frost as 0 C or lower as measured at the Ottawa A/P. The airport climate data stream has had issues since to the switchover to NAV Canada collection services and has only just recently has historical daily data available online. If there is a further issue, Ottawa CDA will be the substitute.
Submit your predictions in the comments. Winning pollster will get...I'm not sure.. bragging rights?

Ugly weekend
Cool, wet and windy. That describes Friday evening through Sunday.
After that there will be a gradual warmup until another cool front will bring more showers late next week.
On a different note, Hurricane Leslie may be hitting Newfoundland next week.
